- This text considers the separation between human and screen and the world beyond the hyperreal. The particular section focuses on reality television.

Blackman, Lisa. 2008. ‘The Body: The Key Concepts’. Chapter: Posthuman Bodies, pg. 116-118. New York: Berg Publications
- This chapter sheds some light on the ‘posthuman body’ and on transhumanist artist Stelarc, providing evidence of the increasingly blurry human/machine boundary.

Butler, Judith. 1990. ‘Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity’. New York: Routledge
- Butler’s theory of performativity has been interesting when considering online constructions of identity and the avatar.

- This article was used to raise questions regarding digital ethics. It was also repurposed as one of my musical works in process.

Gagen, Justin. Cook, Nicholas. 2016. ‘Performing Live in Second Life’. In: ‘The Oxford Handbook of Music and Virtuality’. Whiteley, Sheila & Rambarran, Shara (eds). New York: Oxford University Press.
- I used this chapter of Music and Virutality when thinking about lag in Second Life. The writer’s discuss ‘time’ in Second Life and what it means to its users. This helped me established my point of Second Life as a failed Utopia.

- Groy’s piece on self-design offered a helpful insight into thinking about the avatar. His discussion of man as entirely design wed interesting when considering virtual construction of identity and the self-designed virtual avatar.

Harraway, Donna. 1991. ‘Simians, Cyborgs and Women: The Reinvention of Nature’. New York: Routledge.
- This book was fascinating when considering the merging of science and technology with the human form. ‘The Cyborg Manifesto’ was a catalyst for the discovery of cyberfeminism.

- This article was helpful in expanding my thinking on the modern day contextualisation of intimacy and how this might alter in years to come.

- This article offered a feminist perspective on the development and selling of sex robots which was helpful in my argument of how technology presents the female body as unattainable beauty.

O’Connell, Mark. 2017. ‘To Be a Machine: Adventures Among Cyborgs, Utopians, Hackers, and the Futurists Solving the Modest Problem of Death.’ London: Granta Publications
- O’Connell’s book presented various transhumanist theories, and was interesting when considering the blurred line between the virtual and the real. This book triggered my thinking about where the human being might be in years to come, and the relationship between the human and the machine.

- This is an interesting piece by Jon Rafman exploring Google Street view and posing questions around authorship and privacy.

- This blog was a great source for understanding the users of Second Life and the communities within. This specific article was on furry culture, one of the largest communities within Second Life.

- This manifesto by VNS Matrix encompasses much of cyberfeminism’s message, and helped in my understanding of feminist theory post Harraway’s ‘Cyborg Manifesto.’
